Rogue Growers is the backyard, small-scale, "I'm-going-to-grow-food-no-matter-how-much-room-I-have" hub on Holy Rogue Network. It's for the suburban yard, the high-rise balcony, the basement under grow lights, the RV slide-out, the spare bedroom turned indoor garden, the no-till raised bed, the food forest on a quarter acre, and every container, tower, hugelkultur mound, hydroponic rig, and aquaponics setup people use to grow food where Big Ag says you can't. If Rogue Farms is the market-scale, distributed-farmers'-market, alt-Big-Ag movement, Rogue Growers is the hobby/family/sovereignty side that feeds INTO it: people start growing in their kitchen window, graduate to selling extras at a local pickup point, and eventually some scale into commercial Rogue Farms operations. Aquaponics is a signature specialty at this scale. Founder Kimball ran entire ROOMS of fish tanks in his basement, with deep-water-culture lettuce rafts floating on top of a koi pond, growing more salad greens than the family could eat — and the only maintenance was adding water as it evaporated and transpired out through the plants. Plants drink the water and remove the fish toxins; fish fertilize the plants; nobody does a "weekly water change" ever again. Kimball will post his garage, basement, balcony, and RV-scale builds here to teach the on-ramp. Anyone who outgrows the small stuff and wants to scale to commercial-grade greenhouse aquaponics graduates UP to Murray Hallam at Practical Aquaponics in Brisbane (one of the world's premier aquaponics teachers and a friend of the network). Kimball, Brooke, and the kids met Murray and toured his farm in person in February 2019 during the family's worldschooling/unschooling trip Down Under — that visit is part of why this movement is shaped the way it is. A sister movement, **Rogue Aquarists** (loading into the Movement Machine at aquarist.rogue.my to start, with a permanent domain coming next), is being spun up alongside Rogue Growers to cover the OTHER side of aquaponics: the broader fishkeeping and home-aquarium hobby. The pitch to fishkeepers is direct — the #1 reason people quit aquariums is the weekly water-change schedule (skip it, fish die). Pair an aquarium with even a small aquaponic grow tray on top and the problem disappears. Aquarists who add plants become Growers; Growers who want to scale their fish side become Aquarists. The two movements feed each other in both directions. There's a school-classroom dream this movement is built to make possible again, at scale this time. After the family returned from Australia in 2019, the elementary-school teachers saw Kimball's aquaponics posts on Facebook and asked to come see the basement setup. That single visit led to a year of meetings with multiple Utah school districts to put micro-aquaponics systems into school classrooms — with the goal that every kid in the school (and eventually every kid in the county) would eat a salad every day that they themselves had helped grow. The High School shop and welding teachers in Morgan County were lined up to partner with Mountain Green Middle School: the older kids would BUILD the systems alongside Kimball; the younger kids would feed the fish and tend the grow beds; and the cafeterias would walk down the hall to "shop" the kids' produce like a farmers' market. The plan was to launch the first "Aqua Regis #POOPOWER Laboratory" in a classroom Kimball had already been offered at Mountain Green Middle. The hardware breakthrough that makes this scale into ANY classroom or apartment is Kimball's own design: a 55-Gallon Standard Tank Topper Filter/Grow Bed that drops onto any standard 55-gallon aquarium and turns it into a self-cleaning, self-fertilizing salad bar in a footprint that fits on a teacher's countertop. The topper IS the filter (no more weekly water changes) AND the grow bed (butter lettuce, romaine, kale, chard, herbs) — one elegant unit that bridges the fish-tank-as-pet world with the food-production world. In the original Kickstarter demo Kimball deliberately let a 55-gallon tank go six months with no water change, then dropped the Topper on; inside 8 hours the water went from gross to crystal-clear, and over the next 40 days the tank produced 14 full heads of lettuce. The next-generation Topper is a dramatic redesign and will launch as a flagship Storefront product on the network. The kids called Kimball "Aqua Man" in the hallways — he was the cool dad who brought in the exotic-fish tanks — and each year was supposed to culminate in a "Salad Party" where the students happily ate the salad they had grown together. Then 2020 happened. Government health-department restrictions and lockdowns shut the whole effort down; the principal couldn't even keep the school open; the dream died on the launch pad. Holy Rogue Network is how we bring it back — and this time it scales. Certified Rogue Growers across the country can offer aquaponics-classroom services as a side income (or a full-time gig) into BOTH homeschool co-ops AND public schools that already have stale, underused greenhouse projects begging for new life. Field trips to Kimball's Liberty Farms grow operation will be frequent for both audiences. Plenty of public-school teachers feel stuck in a system they no longer recognize; an aquaponics-classroom partnership with a Certified Rogue Grower is often the first taste of what life as a Rogue School Faculty member could look like — by night and weekends at first, then full-time when they're ready. The kids who help build, feed, and harvest in those classrooms graduate as Certified Aqua Kids, the network's first explicit youth-tier credential. The classroom side of the movement gathers the creators teaching the craft — aquaponics build-outs, hydroponic towers, no-till raised beds, indoor herb walls, container gardens for apartments, balcony systems for high-rises, basement grow rooms, RV and tiny-house grow setups, regenerative soil work, food forests, vertical gardening, grow-light tutorials, and a full Seed Saving / Seed Bank / Seed Exchange branch for heirloom and open-pollinated seed work. The marketplace runs on the standard Holy Rogue Network template: Storefronts (extra produce, seedlings, starts, heirloom seeds, finished aquaponics kits and plans, custom build services, and Kimball's own 55-Gallon Tank Topper grow units shipped flat-pack for classrooms and apartments), Classifieds (give-away surplus zucchini, swap heirloom seeds, buy-or-borrow tools), Hot-Oven-equivalent "Garden Gates Open" days where local Growers open their setups to neighbors and visitors, and Clubs (local seed swaps, build days, aquaponics open-house tours, school-aquaponics chapters). Climb the Halo Rating ladder by being the Grower whose tower is always producing, the build-day host whose neighbors leave with their own systems, the school-systems Faculty member who gets aquaponics into another classroom this year. Earn your Certified Rogue Grower badge to start; eventually graduate to certified Garden Angel — the marketplace tier who mentors a brand-new Grower from "I've never grown anything" through their first full harvest — and host signature Field Trips and Build Days of your own. The boats fill, the lettuce rafts float, and another kid eats a salad they grew themselves.
